Vincent's grandmother got her a video camera after Vincent's mother died. She told Vincent that she went through a difficult time when she was in her 20s. A friend gave her a camera, and she told Vincent's grandmother to take pictures and see if it made her feel better. She did and taking pictures did make her feel better. So Vincent's grandmother bought her a video camera to function as a shield between her and the world when the world was too much to bear. She thought it might help Vincent to look at the world sometimes through the viewfinder when she could not face it head on.
