Bridging Cultural Gaps is a reoccurring idea in the book. From the beginning of the novel, it is clear there are several gaps in the relationships not only between the Homelanders and the Damarians, but among the Homelanders themselves, and among the various people of the Hills. Harry, from Home originally, realizes early on that Home is where the refined women of society are taught and bred.
