The turkey buzzard is a symbol of death. It is found in the story “The Dune.” When the Judge sees this buzzard during his visit to the dunes, he remembers how he has been told that these birds forecast death. The narrator makes it appear this buzzard has come for the Judge when he indicates that the buzzard seems to be telling the Judge with his eyes that the Judge is his business on that particular day.
