Why is Strepsiades so fretful he can't even sleep in the beginning of The Clouds?

In the beginning of The Clouds, Strepsiades is worrying about his debt. He worries about the days slipping past the 20th, when his creditors come calling and his interest goes up. Strepsiades even calls a slave to bring him his accounting records, instead of sleeping.
