Over the course of the novel, Marina's diary entries depict a silent, broken, young woman, who over time, finds it possible to not only forgive herself.... but to forgive others as well. After that day in family court, Marina loses trust in everything and everyone, particularly, the people who are supposed to love her most. In the end, she acknowledges the love she still feels for her father, builds up trusting relationships with the people who worked so hard for her benefit, and even develops friendships with other girls.
