Morris Zapp sees academic life as being a series of, to those who have, more will be given. He believes that writing one very good book is all one needs to do to get started, and while admittedly, at the beginning of a career, with a young family and heavy teaching load, this isn't easy, one book often leads to a grant for a second. The second book often leads to a promotion which includes courses you devise yourself, which allows you to use your teaching as research for yet another book, which leads to tenure, research grants, and less actual teaching and administrative work.
