Both Vladamir and Ms. Karp have the same element affinity that Lissa has...that of spirit. They could both heal and they both had to deal with the negative side effects from it. Vladimir had a dhampir companion who helped him, whereas Ms. Karp did not. She becomes Strigoi to kill that affinity.
