The main conflict in the novel, Shabanu: Daughter of the Wind, is centered around Shabanu's coming of age.... her pending marriage, as well as her unsuccessful attempt to avoid marriage. Man versus nature is another conflict, as Shabanu's family must keep moving... sand storms and water shortages create danger and tension.
