Who is Bill?

Bill is one of Adah's co-workers at the Chalk Farm Library. He is another foil for Francis, as he is also kind and supportive to Adah, introducing her to the work of Black writers like James Baldwin and encouraging her to write herself. Adah feels that Bill is her "first real friend she had...outside of her family" (152). After she writes The Bride Price, Adah shows it to Bill and he calls it her "brainchild" (166) and encourages her to send it out to publishers.
