Who is Marwan?

Marwan is the son of the narrator. His exact age is not stated, but he appears to be fairly young. He was born in Syria, and he spent many peaceful and happy days with his parents. However, because he was quite young during those days, he has no memory of them. He was a toddler when the Syrian Civil War began, and thus the violence and strife of the war have formed his earliest memories. He goes with his parents to the Mediterranean Sea in order to flee the country by boat. The narrator prays for Marwan’s safety during the journey.
