Abbot Mortimer from Redwall is the stern leader but very kind-hearted of redwall Abby, he watches over Mattias's development and has seen that his is destined to become the abby's champion. He dies from the poison excreted by Cluny's barb attached to his tail. He makes arrangements before he leaves (dies) to which makes Matthias to become a champion.
