Acceptance is a recurring idea. Though Pippi, with her fire red hair and long skinny legs, does not look like any children in the neighborhood, the children often accept her. Adults find her exasperating, which confuses her because she doesn’t feel what she says – or how she thinks – is wrong. Children are mesmerized and enthralled by her stories, but adults think she is annoying and troublesome, which goes to show that without an adult influence, children are much more accepting of those different from them.
