Why does Erin suspect that Elliot's death was murder rather than suicide in the novel, One by One?

When Elliot is found dead, the possibility that he killed himself is suggested. Erin, however, reasons that if Elliot had killed himself he would not have physically destroyed his computer, he would simply have reformatted the hard drive. Thus, she believes that his death was murder rather than suicide.
