In keeping with the narrative style, many lines employ enjambment, allowing the speaker’s thoughts to move along from one line to the next. For example, she says “Accept the fluster / of lost door keys” (7-8), and “where it was you meant / to travel” (8-9). This flow of thought and language in the earlier part of the poem reflects the meaning of these early stanzas, where she declares that it is not difficult to manage life’s losses.
