The image King gives is an image of a cage on a table covered with a red tablecloth containing a rabbit with a number on its back. Most writing books contain images described in detail (or graphic ones) for the student writer to use in the writing exercise. King's motive was to allow the reader to use his or her imagination to re-create a scene as the writer visualized it. Answers will vary about whether the student believes this is effective or not.
