King was a sickly child with one brother, Dave, and a single mom, Ruth. They moved constantly because his mother wanted to be near her relatives. King and his brother Dave were active, imaginative young boys who frequently got into trouble because of their creativity. Later on, King went to the university where he met his wife, Tabitha. After graduation, he had to work at many menial jobs until he became a high school English teacher. With the success of his first novel, Carrie, King's life changed dramatically because he was able to concentrate solely on his writing. During this period of time, he became an alcoholic and later a cocaine addict. His wife Tabitha intervened and King changed his priorities.
