The language of the novel is simple, precise English. The author tends to use language that is simplistic in this novel, underscoring the narrator's high school education. The novel also includes some unusual words, such as the word bodach, to name unique creatures and situations contained in the novel. All these unusual words are explained within the text and do little to slow down the pace of the novel.
