How does Dorothea respond to what is undeniably an unhappy marriage in the novel, Middlemarch?

Although Dorothea is unhappy in her marriage, she remains devoted to her husband as was expected of a woman during this time period. She helps him with his work when he asks and leaves him alone when he requests solitude.
