The relationship between bullfighting and poetry becomes most evident when the bullfighter Paquito de Monterrey is gored to death, and ballads are written about him in the tradition of Federico Garcia Lorca's poem ("Lament for Ignacio Sanchez Mejias," 1935) about the death of the bullfighter Ignacio Sanchez Mejias.
