Most poems - all except for Ave Maria and some of the shorter sketches like Poem (3) - are told in a stream-of-consciousness style with the poet free associating in the style of Joyce's Ulysses and Finnegan's Wake. This creates a free-flowing, unhinged quality full of unfinished thoughts and elastic use of words with multiple meanings.
