Love in the Big City is narrated by a young, gay Korean man living in Seoul named Young Park. His perspective provides insight into what life is like for a gay person living in Korea, though many aspects of his experience will likely be relatable to queer people living all over the world, such as his memory of being called a gay slur in a health clinic and his relationship with hyung, a self-hating gay man who tried to hide his sexuality from others. Young is narrating the events of his life in past tense from sometime in the future, and he often provides humorous self-deprecating commentary about these events, as well as genuine insight into his emotional state.
