Who does Miranda visit in Chapter Seven, and why is she worried?

In Chapter Seven, Miranda visits Megan, who is looking very thin and ill, and is obviously not eating enough. Miranda, worried, tries to reason with her, but Megan is completely overcome with religious fervor.
