What is The Red Dress?

Maven gives Mare a red dress to wear to wear to his court. Mare describes it as beautiful, and compares it to “a pool of red blood” (64). Maven chooses this color deliberately to draw attention to Mare’s Red status, and it represents her core identity. It also symbolizes the inseparable link between her and the Red community in which she was raised.
