On one level, language and meaning throughout this book is tied closely to point of view, in that the author's use of language clearly and vividly evokes the sprawling, at times incoherent wanderings of the narrator's old mind. On another level, however, there are occasions when language is used in particularly telling ways. One of which is the way the author frequently injects references to The RAMJAC Corporation into what often seem to be irrelevant circumstances. The suggestion here is that capitalism (as manifest in the ever-reaching, ever-acquisitive, evermore wealthy RAMJAC) is inescapable and inevitable.
