What parallels does Wallace draw between the Entertainment and drugs

Wallace draws many parallels between the Entertainment and drugs in a significant way. The effects of drug addiction for the residents at Ennet House are similar to the effects of the Entertainment. Both drugs and the Entertainment have the ability to leave the user catatonic and incapable of caring for oneself. Like drugs, the Entertainment can consume the user's life even to the point of death.
