One of the larger conflicts in the novel Infinite Jest concerns the Quebec separatist movement. In reality, there is a movement among many people in Quebec who wish to separate from Canada. In the future society contained in the novel Infinite Jest, Canada and the United States are now one country. So the separatists begin to focus their attention on being anti-American, since the Americans still control most of the government. They do not have any qualms about using the American-made Entertainment against the American people in their war.
