Throughout the play, the language spoken by the characters represents the reality they inhabit. It also represents their ethno-cultural background. Even though characters speak English much of the time so that an English-speaking audience can fully understand the narrative, whether the characters are speaking with an accent communicates their degree of fluency in English, and therefore their degree of comfort while communicating in a language other than their language of origin.
