Who is Father Captain Federico DeSoya from The Rise of Endymion and what is their importance?

Father Captain Federico DeSoya is a priest and distinguished captain in the Pax fleet. During his first mission to capture Aenea, DeSoya becomes suspicious of the Church's motives and of the true nature of his prey. When the Core assassin, Rhadamanth Nemes, then tries to kill Aenea on God's Grove, DeSoya intercedes on her behalf. For this he receives a court-martial, something that allows him to work as a parish priest on his home world of Madrededios. He is later reinstated by the Core.
