Importance of Safe Deposit Box

The safe deposit box represents Gwendy’s maturing thought process. When she was first given the box, she hid it under a tree, and then behind a cement block in the basement. It was because she left it in her closet after the basement flooded that Frankie was able to find it. In college, she is able to look back on those decisions and see how irresponsible they were. At this point in her life, she knows the best place to keep the box is in a safe deposit box.
