How does the author use foreshadowing in Grendel?

In Chapter Ten, the garbled warning of “beware the fish” in addition to Grendel's mother's attempts to keep Grendel in the cave add to the sense that Grendel’s life is in danger. Even the season—winter—foreshadows the end is near.
