Alcohol is a symbol of the negative consequences colonialism has had on Indigenous communities. Alberta's drunk father is a result of him living through several dehumanizing, racist experiences. Alcoholic Native Americans is also a racist stereotype to suggest uselessness and a lawless way of living.
