What happens at the strike meeting held in the opening chapter of the novel, God’s Bits of Wood?

At the strike meeting, it appears that many people are nervous about the strike. Several speakers try to rally the workers together, and a few people in the crowd become overly passionate. At the end of the meeting the workers vote to strike the following morning.
