Who is Rose Hathaway from Frostbite and what is their importance?

Rose Hathaway is a student at St. Vladimir's Academy in Montana. As a dhampir, Rose is in training to become a guardian for a member of the Moroi vampire society, Lissa Dragomir. Rose has recently returned to the academy after running away with Lissa for two years to protect her from a member of another royal Moroi family who wanted to use her magic gift of spirit to heal him. For that reason, Rose is fighting to catch up with the rest of her class.
