Martin Scorsese was well known for his rock documentaries, particularly Woodstock. Scorsese grew up in an Italian-American ghetto in New York City, and visions of the violence he saw is reflected in his films. He artfully controlled camera movement and angles to establish a move, while intercutting shots for dramatic effect, and actors were encouraged to improvise.
