According to Lewis, Sergey was essentially innocent of the crime for which he was accused because his confession was coerced by an overzealous detective. Nevertheless, he was locked away in prison for eight years while his employer, Goldman Sachs, got away with their own crimes. Goldman Sachs, who pushed aggressively for Sergey’s conviction, were themselves guilty of falsifying documents related to Greece’s debt and of knowingly preparing toxic sub-prime mortgage packages to be sold for profit,. Yet, they were never tried for these crimes. It appears that wherever one turns on Wall Street, the big guy gobbles up the little guy. Virtue always loses to vice.
