Who is Tawanda Jones from the book, Five Days?

Tawanda Jones is a Black resident of Baltimore. She works as a schoolteacher. In 2013, her brother, Tyrone west, was unjustly killed by police officers. The Baltimore Police Department then took various illegal measures to suppress evidence of the truth. Ever since then, Tawanda has held weekly protests to raise awareness of this injustice. She also participated in the protests following Freddie Gray’s death. Tawanda eventually managed to acquire a third-party medical examination of Tyrone’s body, which revealed evidence of violence and excessive force. None of the officers were charged with crimes, but a civil court ordered that Baltimore pay a large monetary sum to Tyrone’s family.
