How did Fiela get a male ostrich in Fiela's Child?

Fiela armed herself with a whitethorn branch and sat in the aloe hills above the nest of a wild ostrich pair for days. Finally, she was able to steal three chicks from the nest to bring home. Kicker is the only one who survived.
