What did Gene start doing after he finished college in the novel, Dragon Hoops?

After Gene graduated from college, he began writing and drawing graphic novels. He wanted to tell stories. At about the same time, he also became a high school teacher and started teaching at Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, California.
