How has Gene felt about sports since he was a little kid in the novel, Dragon Hoops?

Gene has hated sports ever since he was a little kid. He has especially hated basketball. Games would begin okay, but then he would get distracted. He would get hurt, and his teammates would yell at him. He usually ended up getting kicked off teams.
