Domestic abuse is abuse perpetrated on family members by another family member. In this novel, domestic abuse is perpetrated on the Pye children over three generations by their fathers. It begins with Jackson Pye, one of the founding fathers of Crow Lake. Pye has come to Crow Lake to build a farm for himself and a future family. Jackson designs and builds not only his own grand house, but a house for one of the other founding fathers of the town as well.
