i'm not sure..
the human condition is strongly emphasised through the setting of the play. In the 1970's, the mentally ill were mistreated and stigmated from the world around them, partically dipicted in the setting of the play, the burnt out theatre. As lewis the protagonist spends time with the mentally ill, he develops strong relationships and therefore treating the patients as normally people. Lewis initially describes the patients as 'they're mad. it's madness,' but as the play unfolds he reveals 'they play comes first' altering his perception of the mentally ill, which ultimately contributes heavily to the human condition - to treat others equally.
