Who is Homer- The Maker from Collected Fictions and what is their importance?

Homer is a character in The Immortal. He is one of the primitive men, or troglodytes, that live near the City of the Immortals. Once a poet, Homer was the author of the Iliad and the Odyssey. His immortality, however, caused him to degenerate into a troglodyte.
