Why does Paul believe his father intentionally injured Joe Castle in the novel, Calico Joe?

Paul believes that his father was jealous of Joe because Paul admired Joe and not his father. It is also suggested that Warren hit Joe because Joe managed to hit a home run off one of his pitches even though Warren was determined not to let him do that.
