They meet Captain Smith, who complains that too many of the colonists are noble gentlemen who don't know how to work. Smith has taken on Samuel as his page because he has a fighting nature, and believes this energy can be turned to positive work. Smith goes to complain about the gentlemen to the ships' commander, Captain Newport, and Rev. Hunt points out the various gentlemen to the boys, warning them they must be respectful to them.
