Ernesto's biggest problem?

What was Ernesto's biggest problem after moving to the United States and how was he able to overcome it ?

After arriving in the states, Ernesto's biggest problem is communication. Miss Ryan assists Ernesto in conquering this problem because she gives her students private language lessons.

As I know it is language and cultural isolation. This character always feels himself as an outsider in a new environment.
