Zambo, Medza's cousin, is described as tall and muscular. He is also described as lazy and without ambition.

Medza is the novel's protagonist. He has completed his secondary education, and when he returns to his village, he feels as if he's been transported back in time. Medza's education and inability to further his education led him home. Unfortunately, the education he has received has left him feeling like a fish out of water..... he no longer belongs to his village, and as a result, he exiles himself from his family.
