If the Wizard never lets anyone see him, how do the people in the Land of Oz know he's real? What are some of the ways that the Wizard controls the perceptions of the people? Why do you think these tricks work so well?

Essay Topic 2

When Dorothy and the travelers are granted access to the Wizard, they are first primped and pampered. Why do you think this is done? Why is Dorothy put into a green silk gown? What purpose does this serve?

When Dorothy has to run after Toto, she misses the balloon that's going back home. If you were in her position, would you have left Toto in Oz or would you have done what she did? Why or why not? Do you think Dorothy made the right decision? Why or why not?
