Class Discussion: What is Maggie trying to avoid by stabbing herself with a pencil in Chapter 1? What does stabbing herself reveal about how stuttering makes her feel? How do her peers treat her because of her stuttering? How does the school nurse treat her? Why do Maggie's parents need to find another school for her after the pencil incident? How does her father feel about her stuttering? How does her mother try to deal with Maggie's stuttering? How does Maggie's stuttering affect her life?
