Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is a novel by Grace Lin, a Taiwanese-American author from New York. The book was a recipient of a 2010 Newbery Honor Book mention, and Lin also received an Honorable Mention for Year of the Dog from the Asian/Pacific American Awards for Literature. In this lesson, students are introduced to the novel and will research its author, Grace Lin.
Lesson
1) Teacher Lecture: Introduce students to the novel Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin. This novel follows the journey of Minli, a young Chinese girl, in her quest to change her family's fortune. Grace Lin drew from Chinese folklore in writing the narrative, which received a 2010 Newbery Honor Book Mention.
