Essay Topic 1
Robin and Sophie deal with a lot of adversity in regards to their relationship. The other students verbally attack them and physically taunt them because of their choice to be together. Though it is miserable in some ways, in other ways, the adversity strengthens the bond between Sophie and Robin. Write about the specific ways that Sophie and Robin grow closer because of the adversity. Give examples to support your claims. When other students begin to accept the relationship, what happens to the bond between the young couple?

The entire book is written in various forms of poetry. Why do you believe that the author made this choice? Did you find that reading Robin's story in poetic form made the book more enjoyable or less? Why? How would the book have been different if it had been written in traditional prose?

Robin is a pessimist in regards to his relationship with Sophie. He lives in constant fear of her dumping him, even though she makes the choice to stay with him on several occasions.
